Rental Requirements & Terms

This page is a plain-English overview of how renting from OTAG works. It is not the rental contract. The signed rental agreement you receive at pickup is the document that governs your rental, and if anything here differs from that agreement, the signed agreement controls.

Who Can Rent

To rent a vehicle from us you need:

A valid, unexpired driver's license
To meet our minimum age and driving record requirements, which we confirm during the application
To be approved to drive on the gig platform you intend to use, or to be eligible to sign up
A working phone number and email address so we can reach you

No credit check is required for rentals. We do review your driving record and verify your identity. Approval is at our discretion and is not guaranteed.

Rates and Payment

Weekly rentals start at $250 per week. Rates vary by vehicle, ranging up to approximately $400 per week for larger or higher-demand vehicles.
Monthly rentals are available.
Rent is charged on a recurring weekly or monthly basis for as long as you keep the vehicle.
There are no long-term contracts. You can return the vehicle at the end of a paid period.

A security deposit may be required. Deposit amount, payment method, late payment terms, and any mileage allowance are confirmed in writing during the application and stated in your rental agreement before you sign. Ask us for the specifics for the vehicle you want — we'll give you the full number before you commit to anything.

Using the Vehicle

Our vehicles are intended for rideshare, delivery, and personal use by the approved renter. You agree that you will not:

Allow anyone who is not listed on the rental agreement to drive the vehicle
Use the vehicle for any illegal purpose, or to transport anything unlawful
Use the vehicle for racing, towing, or off-road driving
Sublease or re-rent the vehicle to anyone else
Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
Take the vehicle outside the permitted geographic area without our written approval
Smoke in the vehicle

Violating these terms can result in immediate termination of the rental and recovery of the vehicle.

Insurance

Every vehicle on the road must be properly insured, and rideshare and delivery driving has coverage requirements that a standard personal policy usually does not meet. We offer rideshare-compatible insurance options and will walk you through what coverage is in place and what, if anything, you need to carry yourself. Your specific coverage, deductible, and responsibilities are set out in your rental agreement.

Gig platforms provide their own contingent coverage while you're on an active trip. That coverage does not replace the insurance required for the vehicle.

Maintenance and Repairs

Routine maintenance — oil changes, tires, brakes, scheduled service — is handled in house by us. You don't pay separately for normal wear.
You are responsible for damage caused by misuse, neglect, an at-fault collision, or violation of these terms.
Report any accident, damage, warning light, or mechanical problem to us right away. Driving a vehicle with a known problem can make you responsible for the resulting damage.
If a vehicle needs to come off the road for service, we'll work with you on a replacement so you can keep earning where we're able to.

Tickets, Tolls, and Citations

You are responsible for parking tickets, moving violations, red-light and speed camera citations, toll charges, and impound fees incurred while the vehicle is in your possession, plus any administrative fee stated in your rental agreement for processing them.

Returning the Vehicle

Return the vehicle to the agreed location, at the agreed time, in the condition you received it apart from normal wear, and with the same fuel level. Let us know before the end of your paid period if you intend to return it so we can schedule the handoff and inspection.

Ending the Rental Early

Because rentals are week to week or month to month, you can end the arrangement at the close of a paid period without penalty. We may end a rental early for non-payment, misuse of the vehicle, loss of your license or platform eligibility, or violation of the rental agreement.

The signed agreement governs. This page is a summary provided for convenience. Exact rates, deposits, fees, mileage limits, insurance terms, and obligations are set out in the rental agreement you sign. Read it before signing and ask us about anything that isn't clear — we'd rather answer ten questions up front than have a surprise later.
